Darkhan city

Darkhan city

Darkhan is one of Mongolia's major urban centers, located in the northern part of the country. It serves as the capital of Darkhan-Uul Province and is situated approximately 230 kilometers (143 miles) northwest of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

The city was founded in 1961 as an industrial city to accommodate workers for the nearby Darkhan Metallurgical Plant (DMP). The city's establishment was part of Mongolia's economic development plans during the Soviet era. The Darkhan Metallurgical Plant, which produces steel and other metal products, has been a significant contributor to the city's economy since its inception. Darkhan is well-connected by road and rail to Ulaanbaatar and other parts of Mongolia.

Darkhan is an important industrial city in Mongolia, known for its steel production and industrial heritage. While its economy is largely centered on heavy industry, the city also offers cultural and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. With its strategic location and urban infrastructure, Darkhan continues to play a significant role in Mongolia's economic development and urbanization.
