Detailed tour itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Ulaanbaatar. Tour of the City

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, meet our tour guide and driver after custom formalities and transfer to the hotel. The city tour of Ulaanbaatar takes you through some of the principal sights of this unique city. You visit the Gandan Monastery, Chingis  Khan Monument on the Chingis Khaan square and the Museum of National History. Overnight stay at the hotel.(L,D)

Day 2 Ulaanbaatar – Tsagaan Gol

After breakfast drive to airport and take 3 hours domestic flight from Ulaanbaatar to Ulgii. Ulgii is a capital of Bayan-Ulgii province which is the most western province in Mongolia and borders china and Russia.  It’s a located at an altitude of 1710 meters (5610 feet) and has a population of 28500 people. The town is predominantly populated by Kazakhs and thus the primary language spoken there is Kazakh. Bayan-Ulgii is a perfect place to travel and see a different side of Mongolia.

After you landed there, our local guide & driver will pick you up & drive to Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains (170 km – 6 hours on the dirt road). Do camping in the “Milk river valley” next to Tuvan nomadic families. The Milk river or Tsagaan river originates from the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain and flows 110 km and empties into the Hovd river.The source of the Tsagaan river`s runoff are Mongolian three largest glaciers;Alexander, Graneg, and Potanin glaciers. These rivers melt in the summer time to create the white color of this geologically unique mountain clay-white sediment. The local people respectfully call it ‘’Milk river’’. Overnight stay in a ger.(B,L,D)

Day 3 Tsagaan Gol- Altai Tavan Bogd

Early morning  local herders`ll  bring horses.After breakfast time, we will pack all baggage and start trek to Potanin’s Glacier (15 km – 4 hours). There are five sacred mountains surrounding the giant ice mass. During the trek much of the panorama will be dominated by the towering peaks and rapid mountain streams and monumental glaciers offering a spectacular view . If you tired you can ride horses.The horse ride tour guide will explain some instructions on local horses, just to be safe.  In the evening, we will come back to the our base camp (15 km – 4 hours). The Base camp is one of the most attractive camping sites in Mongolia. Overnight stay in the tent.(B,L,D) 

Day 4 Altai Tavan Bogd – Khoton Khurgan Lake

After breakfast time, we will drive to Khoton & Khurgan Lakes (200 km – 6 hours on the dirt road). Located over 2000 m above sea level, both lakes are connected each other by 3 km long Sirgaal Channel. The landscape around the lakes is stunning: with forests and the snow-capped Altai Mountains. Khoton and Khurgan lakes are home to the grayling (thymallus arcticus) and the lenok (brachymystax lenok). The lakes are located in an inter-montane tectonic depression in the northern portion of the Mongolian Altai Region. The lakes themselves, as well as the mountain rivers which feed the lakes, offer excellent sport fishing in a rugged and virtually unpopulated area.So whether you’re looking for some world-class fishing or just want to take in the breathtaking scenery, Khoton and Khurgan lakes are sure to please.

 

KHOTON LAKE: 22 km long, 4 km wide, surface area 50 км², altitude 2084 m above the sea level, average depth 26.8 m and 58 m at its deepest.

KHURGAN LAKE: 23.3 km long, 6 km wide, surface area 71 км², altitude 2072 m above the sea level, average depth 7.8 m and 28 m at its deepest.

 

Here explore the famous rock painting Khar Salaa over 5000 years old historical sight. There is over 1000 items. Overnight stay

Day5 Khoton Khurgan Lake - Baga Turgen Waterfall

After breakfast time, we will start our trek to Baga Turgen Waterfall (25 km – 1 hour on the dirt road). After the eternal ice on the glacier and firm snow fields in the Altai Mountains are melted by the sun, and the mountain lakes become full, the water forges a path into the valley.There are several waterfalls among the magnificent nature of the Turgen Mountains in western Mongolia. One of them is Baga Turgen waterfall in Turgen gorge near the western shore of the picturesque Khoton and Khurgan Lakes. The glacier waterfall falls from 36 m cliff and segmented into two-stage. The bigger waterfall heights 23 m while the smaller one falls from 13 m. The area where the Baga  Turgen waterfall is located has no roads, no infrastructure, and is more than 70 km from the nearest settlement along the state border, making it inaccessible to anyone who wants to come. Day 6 Baga Turgen Waterfall - Bayan-Ulgii via Eagle hunter family

After breakfast, we drive to the eagle hunter family and spend a day as guests of eagle hunting families. Golden eagle hunters are very experienced in training eagles and  have an affectionate relationship with their eagles.  Nomadic Kazakh people in Bayan -Ulgii have kept their ancient Kazakh culture for thousands of years.Eagle hunting is in their blood. The Kazakh eagle hunters learn eagle training from their father, and it is passed from one generation to another.Hunters often say that they love the birds like their own children, and rely on the birds to catch animals to provide food and fur for their families.You will have the opportunity to stay with a family and explore a lot of ancient traditions. Be a part of real golden eagle hunting.After dinner time, we will drive to Uglii town.

Day 7 Bayan-Ulgii – Ulaanbaatar

Fly back to Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast time, drive to the Bayan-Ulgii airport and fly back to Ulaanbaatar (3 hours flight). After you landed in the city, our driver will pick you up and transfer to your accommodation. Enjoy traditional folklore concert in the evening. (B,L,D) 

Day 8: Departure from Ulaanbaatar

Departure from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.Transfer to the Chinggis Khaan airport or  train station.( B)
