Winter in Mongolia is quite harsh, cold, and bitter but the abundance of deep snow and mountainous scenery of the northernmost Khuvsgul province is simply too breathtaking to overlook when planning a trip.The ice festival is one of the old outside events which held every year which attracts hundreds and thousands of visitors to gather here.
Khuvsgul fresh water lake, which is named “Blue pearl”, with it`s stunning clear ice is a perfect location for an Ice Festival.The tour has not included any physical or demanding activities, but staying in a fire heating gers and having outdoor activities at +5°C to -18°C makes the tour moderate and experiential.

We will pick you up from your desired location and start the adventure heading to Khuvsgul lake on paved road. On your way, see beautiful spring scenery in Mongolian steppe, visit nomadic families for nomadic experiences and lifestyle photography. Have an overnight at a hotel in Erdenet copper mine city. Along the way to and back Khuvsgul you will stay two nights in local hotels, where showers and WC are available.(L,D)
Drive to Uushig Deer Stone via Murun, center of Khuvsgul province. There are lots of burial mounds and deer stones in the area and you can explore a line of 14 deer stones placed close to each other. And different number of deer portraits are carved on the stones and you can see some bow and shield carvings as well. A complex of deer stones of Uushig Valley and its burial mounts belong to the ancient Huns period and over 3000 years old. The Bronze Age funeral practice, sacrificial ritual and ideology and animal style art, which were spread among ancient nomads, are all together represented through deer stones made by long block of granite. Then drive to Khuvsgul Lake, Khatgal town (110 km – 3 hours on the paved road). Mongolians value the freshwater lake as a blue pearl, which is along border between Mongolia and Russian Siberia. Khuvsgul is 110km long and almost 40km wide, lies 3% of the all the fresh water on earth in it. Its winter view is magnificent. . Overnight stay in a ger camp.You will stay in a ger camp near the lake. However, the condition of the ger camp will be different than how it works in summer. Due to cold weather, the shower is not available. A stove fire will heat the gers. (B,L,D)
After breakfast go to the event site. After the grand opening ceremony parade of festival, speatators enjoy a great variety of competitions involving popular Mongolian activities suchas long distance horse sledge racing, ice skating, tug of war, ice sumo wrestling, ice carving, archery and the traditional Mongolian game af shagai or knuckle bone shooting on the clear ice. There is also a shamanism ritual worshiping ceremony which offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the Tsaatan people’s way of life and the shaman culture and National Folklore concert. Khuvsgul is a cradle of shamanic lineages passed down through generations. The sled sliding on the ice, punctuated by the trotting horses, and the tinkling of bells attached to the harness in the incredible universe of frozen waves is one of the highlights of this trip (this activity is included in the price). Reindeer people bring their reindeer to the festival site and we will also interest it. Fireworks will be part of the evening entertainment.Overnight stay in the ger camp. (B,L,D)
After breakfast time, we will go to the event site. Today watch a marathon on skaters and a horse sled racing on the lake and rest competitions of the events like Ice skating competition, fun game for tourists, car driving on ice, multidisciplinary art festival. The nicest horse sled competition and horse trotting are part of today's program. There are many fun rides including slides, skating, ice colliding, horse sledding, archery shooting and riding ATV to enjoy your visit et the festival. sThe Ice festival ends with the game and the competition winner's prize award. Try freshwater smoked fish, traditional Mongolian meals, and buying handmade souvenirs. Overnight stay in the ger camp. (B,L,D)
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Staying overnight at a hotel in Erdenet. (B,L,D)
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar late afternoon, and transfer you to your accommodation.End of tour. (B,L,D)
