This is a capsule designed for those with less time and a great interest to experience Mongolia. Enjoy the mesmerizing landscapes, rich culture, heritage and flavors of wildlife . Travel through central Mongolia to the beautiful Ugii lake, and from the only remaining wild horses in Hustai National Park to Chinggis Khaan giant equestrian statue in Terelj National Park. This tour includes historic sites from 13th century and Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape –UNESCO World Heritage Centre which includes Kharkhorum, the 13th century capital of Great Mongolian Empire. Monglolia is famous for being the homeland of Chinggis Khaan. The Orkhon valley has a rich cultural heritage, such as burial mounds, rare and precious monuments, inscribed monuments, inscriptions and archaeological findings that vividly show the culture of pastoral nomads from ancient times.

 

Erdene Zuu Monastery, ”Jewel Temple”, was built in the 16th century. It’s certainly the oldest Buddhist monastery of Mongolia and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in the category “cultural landscape of Orkhon Valley”. Erdenezuu Monastery was built on the site of the old Mongolian capital Kharakhorum using some of the building materials of the ruined city Today, Erdene Zuu remains an active Buddhist monastery, and at the same time a museum open to travelers.This destination offers you a good walk around its area visiting the temples. Furthermore, you can also visit the Kharkhorin Museum with findings from the ancient capital.

Detailed tour itinerary

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar-Elsen Tasarkhai

We pick you up from your desired location and drive to Elsen tasarkhai sand dunes. Elsen tasarkhai is a part of the mongol els sand dunes, that continues 80 km long.

 

It is located 280 km west of Ulaanbaatar. The area is surrounded by sand dunes, hills covered with rare bushes and a small forest near a river. Elsen tasarkhai presents spectacular combination of sand dunes, rocky Mountains, and green meadows in one location. Ride a camel. Overnight stay  in a ger camp. (L,D)

Day 2 Drive to Kharkhorum and Ugii Lake

Drive to the Kharkorum in Orkhon valley. The city served as the Mongolian capital for only 40 years (until Khubilai Khaan moved it to Beijing). Kharkhorin  was a capital of Mongolian Great Empire of Chingis Khaan in the 13th century. Now it is one of the biggest town of Mongolia and there are some popular visitors’s spots, including ancient Erdenezuu monastery, Kharhorin museum. Erdenezuu monastery was established in 1586. The remnants of ancient capital Kharkhorin were used in construction of Erdene zuu monastery. In previous times the grounds held over 60 temples with 10,000 monks using them for their daily worship. Visit Kharkhorin museum which is highly impressive and beautifully designed. Hiking in the Great Khaan`s monument hill  where you can see over the Orkhon Valley. The Orkhon Valley covering an area of 1,220 square kilometers (470 sq. miles) is one of the most important cultural regions in the world and was recognized by the UNESCO World Heritage as a cultural landscape in 2004. Explore the area then drive to beautiful Ugii lake.

Day 3 Drive to Hustai National Park

Drive to Hustai National Park, one of the most popular national parks of Mongolia through the rolling steppes.  The Hustai protected area was established in 1993, a year after the first reintroduction of Przewalskii wild horses from Holland. The wild horse`s Mongolian name is Takhi which means ‘’spirit of worship’ ’. They are the only wild horse to survive in modern times and they have been reintroduced successfully to their homeland after 40 years of extinction. Hustai NP has diversity of the landscapes, and the variety of wildlife including red deer, corsac foxes, Siberian marmots and other numerous raptors such as black vultures, eagles and falcons. Try to take pictures of those beautiful flora and fauna. Overnight stay in a ger  camp. (B, L,D )

Day 4 Drive to Gorkhi Terelj national park

Drive to Gorkhi Terelj national park which is known by its wild beauty, incredible landscapes, rich forests, picturesque hills and fresh air.Visit the giant stainless-steel statue weighs 250 tons and 40 meters high Chinggis Khaan Equestrian statue in Tsonjin Boldog. Chinggis Khaan on his horseback currently holds the record for the highest equestrian statue in the world and visitors can climb to the top of mane of horse to get a close look at the khan himself and see the view of the area. The complex also has a museum to explore, some souvenir shops and Mongolian traditional costumes to wear for photo shoot if you want.  Have lunch there. And then drive shortly to the Aryabal Buddhist meditation temple. From the top of the temple, the park looks so amazing. Ride a horse for 1 hour through the beautiful valley with professional horse guide.
