We will pick you up from your desired location and start the adventure heading to Kharkhorin. The city served as the Mongolian capital for only 40 years (until Khubilai Khaan moved it to Beijing). Kharkhorin was a capital of Mongolian Great Empire of Chingis Khaan in the 13th century. Now it is one of the biggest town of Mongolia and there are some popular visitors’s spots, including ancient Erdenezuu monastery, Kharhorin museum. Erdenezuu monastery was established in 1586. The remnants of ancient capital Kharkhorin were used in construction of Erdene zuu monastery. In previous times the grounds held over 60 temples with 10,000 monks using them for their daily worship. Visit Kharkhorin museum which is highly impressive and beautifully designed. Hiking in the Great Khaan`s monument hill where you can see over the Orkhon Valley. The Orkhon Valley covering an area of 1,220 square kilometers (470 sq. miles) is one of the most important cultural regions in the world and was recognized by the UNESCO World Heritage as a cultural landscape in 2004. Drive to Terkh white lake. Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake (Terkh White Lake ) is freshwater lake,located near the Khorgo volcano crater in Tariat soum in Arkhangai province. Fresh water and volcanogenic Terkh White Lake, is 16 km long from west to east and 6km wide from north to south.
Khorgo dormant volcano, Terkhiin Tsagaan river and Khuduu river have been protected as a National Park since 1995. This lake was created as a result of a 4050 cm thick basaltic blockage of Terkhiin River, following the eruption of Khorgo volcano and some other volcanoes. Enjoy horse trekking to the highest Khorgiin togoo which is located on the east shore of Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan. From its summit, has a splendid view over the whole region and the lake. Terkhiin Tsagaan has more than 10 species of fish such as Taimen, perch, lenok and pike. It’s registered in Ramsar’s Convention because many birds including swan, shelduck, duck, gull, common heron and great white egret gather here. There is a small Island with 500sq km area and 28m relative altitude, called Nuuriin Tolgoi, in the middle of the lake. About ten small rivers feed the White lake of the Terkh. Ten narrow rivers confluence to the Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur. Overnight stay in a ger camp.(B, L,D )
In the morning drive to Telmen Lake is a saltwater lake located in Telmen soum of Zavkhan province. Telmen is a lovely lake with a diverse bird population. The lake is located at the crossroads of the forest-steppe and steppe ecosystems. The confined lake basin of Lake Telmen is mildly saline (about 4g per liter salinity). The unusual desert flower can be seen here,“zambaga”. It is 28km long, 16km wide with a surface area of 194 square km and a maximum depth of 27m. There are three lake islands in Telmen Lake and they host migratory birds. The lake has only one tributary called Khooloi River and mostly fed by rain and underground water. Area around Telmen Lake is barren with no trees and it is a combination of the steppe and the Gobi desert. Overnight stay in ger camp .(B,L,D)
After breakfast drive to Khar lake. The Lake Khar Nuur is a picturesque lake surrounded by dunes and huge impressive mountains. It is 3 – 8km wide, 25km long, 57m deep and is 1,980m above sea level. Right in the middle of Lake Khar Nuur, there are two beautiful islands, known as the Big and Small Avgash, which are rich with different types of trees and bushes and different species of wonderful wildflowers which form a huge carpet across the islands. Birds gather here and spend the whole summer on these islands. They include cormorants, swans and one usual species of duck which in Mongolian is called Angir. It is a great place to do bird watching. Stay overnight in Ger camp.(B, L ,D)
Morning drive to Senjit Rock for 20km. We will have an opportunity to see the Rock Gate or Senjit Tsokhio, a natural gate formed by sun and wind erosion. We can also see many unusual rock formations in this area. Continue driving to Mukhartiin Gol for 18km. Picnic lunch. Walking around the area and seeing nature. Late afternoon then back to Ger camp. Trekking around dunes. Today we will trek around the dunes for 3-4hours at Elsen Shanaa. Stay overnight in Ger camp. (B, L, D)
Travel to Tosontsengel soum (a local administration unit) of Zavkhan province for 220km. Stay overnight in Ger camp. (B, L, D)
Today we will travel to Tsenkher hot spring for 220km. The hot spring with water at +86.5 degree Celsius is very popular in the area. After having a rest you can hike along the surrounding forested mountain and in the evening enjoy taking a hot spring bath. On the way we will see river Chuluut, flows through a sheer basalt canyon which extends 100 kilometers from the mouth of the Teel river to the Atsat. Stay overnight in Ger camp. (B, L, D)
After breakfast we drive to Bayan Gobi sand dunes through the green grassland; arrive at the stunning sand dunes, streams and rocky mountains, hiking around. Together this presents a unique combination of Mongolian mountains, forests and Gobi-type landscape in one location. See nomadic lifestyle and do camel riding. It feels like in the Gobi Desert.
After breakfast drive to Ulaanbaatar and transfer you to your accommodation.End of tour. (B,L,D)
